"WHERE MUSIC COMES ALIVE"
Husnu Senlendirici and New York Gypsy All-Stars Band
Born in Bergama, a small town in the Aegean region of Turkey, Husnu Senlendirici (whose gypsy name means "the one who brings joy") will be flying in from Istanbul for this special show. Starting his career at master percussionist Okay Temiz's Magnetic Band, Husnu went on to form the gypsy-funk outfit Laco Tayfa who recorded and toured with Brooklyn Funk Essentials. His latest solo album "Husn-u Klarinet" features snaking eastern melodies with lavish ornamentation and wild improvisations against complex drum rhythms.
The All-Stars showcases some of NY's finest musicians including Ismail Lumanovski on Clarinet Tamer Pinarbasi on kanun, Panogiotis Andreu from Greece on bass, Seido Salifoski from Macedonia on percussion/darbouka, and Jordan Pearlman from Philadelphia on drums. The group is the brainchild of Serdar Ilhan, producer of the New York Gypsy Festival, which offers a broad perspective on various styles of Gypsy music and dance against the backdrop of New York City which, being the crossroads of many cultures, is essentially Gypsy at heart. Brooklyn Funk EssentialsBrooklyn Funk Essentials were born out of New York's buzzing hip-hop-jazz and slam poetry scenes of the early nineties. Originally conceived by Arthur Baker and Lati Kronlund as a series of studio jam sessions, the group soon turned into a 12-piece live outfit consisting of some of the finest young musicians, singers, rappers, dub poets and djs the Big Apple had to offer. Original members included Lati Kronlund (bass and band leader), Hanifah Walidah (aka Sha-key), Joi Cardwell, Papa Dee and Stephanie McKay (vocals), Everton Sylvester and David Allen (dub poetry), Josh Roseman (trombone), Bob Brockmann (trumpet), Paul Shapiro (sax & flute), Yancy Drew and Tony Allen (drums), E.J. Rodriguez and Danny Sadownic (percussion), Desmond Foster (guitar), ATN Stadwijk and Yuka Honda (keys), Bill Ware (vibes) and djs Jazzy Nice and Smash on turntables. For the first time in seven years, BFE are back home, and for the first time ever outside of Turkey, together with Husnu Senlendirici. They have played to hundreds of thousands of fans in Turkey, and sold equal amounts of records there, and now finally BFE can bring Husnu to their home turf. Don’t miss this event!

Hello A,
ReplyDeleteThere is a big turkish community in USA, so I do not think you will have any problem finding turkish people. Specially in NY, I believe there are more than 50000 turkish people.
You can become a member of Turkish-American Business forum upon your arrival and you will have an amazing network.
I wish I could have time to chat with you but due to my hectic schedule between full time job and full time school, I do not even have time to chat with my own friends. So my apologies.
social butterfly
